About SRI

The Steel Recycling Institute serves as an informational and technical resource for the recycling, life cycle impact and ultimate sustainability of steel, as well as all steel products, including containers, construction and automotive. SRI educates the solid waste industry, government, businesses and ultimately the consumer about steel's recycling accomplishments and sustainable advancements.

North American steel companies and the American Iron and Steel Institute and its associate members directly support the SRI's efforts to continue grassroots effort to work with both the public and private sectors to increase the volume of steel being diverted from our nation's precious landfill space and return it to the steel industry for recycling.

In 2011, the SRI expanded its focus to document steel's sustainable accomplishments by way of life cycle assesments and other key climate change indicators. In the same way SRI worked to make steel North America's most recycled material, SRI will record steel's sustainability and show steel as the sustainable material.
